Meet Dr. Blair Cohen

Dr. Cohen at Dr. Blair Orthodontics in West Palm Beach, FL

Early Life and Exposure to Dentistry

Dr. Blair grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, where dentistry surrounded her from a young age. She regularly visited her father’s dental office, watching him reconstruct smiles, and would often sculpt animal figures in plaster and stone, which occasionally got stuck in her curly red hair. Traveling to dental conventions with her father, she was introduced to the latest in dental techniques and technologies, sparking her hope that she could one day help her own patients.

High School and Scientific Beginnings

Dr. Blair’s interest in science began in high school, where she was part of the first graduating class of the Biotechnology Program at Spanish River Community High School. Here, she explored the fundamentals of DNA and proteins in a state-of-the-art laboratory.

College Years at the University of Miami

At the University of Miami, Dr. Blair studied Microbiology and Immunology. Rather than shy away from the challenge of organic chemistry, she found it fascinating, leading her to become:

  • An organic chemistry workshop leader
  • The program coordinator facilitates student learning and prepares students for exams

She also enjoyed sculpture classes, where she welded a large metal masterpiece, combining her love of science and art.

Dental School at Temple University

Dr. Blair was accepted into The Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she:

  • Studied the human body, learning fine dexterity
  • Perfected dental procedures over the course of her program

During her final two years, she worked as a student dentist for patients in low-income areas of Philadelphia.

Residency in New York

Following dental school, Dr. Blair completed a General Dental Residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York. During this time:

  • She provided dental care to an underprivileged population
  • She was on call for emergencies like facial lacerations and dental infections, making her experience rewarding as she helped patients in severe pain.

Becoming an Orthodontist

After working as a general dentist in NYC for two years, Dr. Blair decided to pursue orthodontics during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was accepted to Montefiore Orthodontic Residency in the Bronx, where she learned how to treat complex cases efficiently with Invisalign® and braces. Now, Dr. Blair is excited to bring her unique Invisalign expertise to patients in South Florida, focusing on improving both dental esthetics and occlusion.

Returning to South Florida

After three years of orthodontic residency, Dr. Blair has returned to South Florida to open her own practice in West Palm Beach. In her free time, she enjoys playing pickleball, spending time with her family, and playing with her red-headed poodle, Novacaine.
